Is China a Capitalist society?

Twenty Three.
I am now working on a long essay/short book that will examine the relationship between consumer culture and totalitarian ideology in Mainland China. To set the stage for the main argument, I need to answer a few basic questions. The first two are "how to define Capitalism?", and "whether or not China is a Capitalist society?". 

Capitalism is an ambiguious term. It is used to decribe an ideology that premeates a broad range of political systems, social values, and economic structures across different geographies and historical periods.

As Black Crayon points out, capitalism 'will rarely mean the same thing for two people'. The broadest definition I can come up with based on all the ones I have come acroess is that capitalism describes a system in which the means of production are privately owned by profit-seeking individuals.
